In 1990, four top executives of The New York Times went to Washington to attend a four-day seminar to which they had been invited by quality guru W. Edwards Deming. Included in the group was Arthur O. Sulzberger Jr. He is the great-grandson of Adolph S. Ochs, one of the towering figures in the history of U.S. journalism and the man who penned the Times' inspiring slogan: "to give the news impartially, without fear or favor, regardless of party, sect or interests involved."
