IN 1996, ASQ published its first Future of Quality Study in an attempt to get ahead of the influential forces that would make an impact on the quality profession and, in some cases, the business world as a whole. Every three years since then, the organization has delivered an updated version, presenting the changes that were coming and their implications. As would be expected from a quality-focused organization such as ASQ, compiling the 2011 study required more than a Magic 8 Ball and a deck of Tarot cards. It meant gathering the collective wisdom of individuals representing all major sectors of the global economy and reaching a consensus on the forces that will shape the future of quality.
