Prepare for a New Structure

The structure of ISO 9001 has been revised. Clauses and subclauses are retitled and reordered according to a high-level structure that allows for all management system standards (MSS) to be aligned. To fully understand this change, some background explaining why it was done should be helpful. From the early 1990s, the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) technical committee for quality management (ISO/TC 176) and its technical committee for environmental management (ISO/TC 207) worked together to enhance compatibility and avoid conflicting requirements between ISO 9001 and ISO 14001, the international environmental MSS.
