Meteor scatter is a great way to add new states and grids on the VHF bands. NASA meteor expert Bill Cooke says this year, the Perseids will be perhaps the best meteor shower of the entire year. In 2017, during the peak, observers could see about 60 - 70 meteors per hour, but in outburst years (such as in 2016) the rate can be up to 150 - 200 meteors an hour. The meteor showers peak will be visible both the nights of August 11 - 12 and August 12-13, Cooke said. Radio reflections from the meteors ionization will be higher than the visual predicted rates.
