Government on track to hack back estate

The latest annual report on the size and cost of the central government property estate paints a picture of a shrinking civic asset base. State of the Estate 2012, published by the Cabinet Office on 23 May, reports that, in 2010/11, the overall size of the central government estate shrank by 5.8%, the number of property holdings fell by 11.1%, and running costs were cut by £278m year on year (graph, below).
