Jewellery brand close to collapse again

Gemstone Retail, the company that bought Half Price Jewellery (HPJ) out of administration in February, has filed a notice of intention to appoint administrators. Having failed to turn the struggling brand around, Cemstone Retail filed a notice at the High Court last week saying it intended to appoint Simon Thomas and Robert Pick at Moorfields Corporate Recovery as administrators. The notice is likely to create unease among landlords, as many have already been embroiled in a row with HPJ's former owners over unpaid rent in the run-up to its original collapse, and 52 stores are at risk in the latest action.
