No doubt about it: Ethanol is engrained in the economic fabric

Last September, we reported that ethanol production was increasing so fast that the 2012 goal for an annual production rate of 7.5 billion gallons was likely to be met in 2009. We also said that if there were enough corn to produce 12 billion gallons of ethanol, U.S. railroad traffic might exceed 400,000 ethanol carloads per year-a volume large enough to rival more established traffic segments like paper and lumber.
