Amtrak and five commuter rail lines are among the 11 railroads that have indicated to the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) that they expect to meet the federally mandated deadline of Dec. 31, 2015, for positive train control implementation. In a detailed report to Congress last month, the FRA said most railroads will not meet the deadline. The news came as no surprise, as the FRA and industry leaders have said in prior reports and announcements that most railroads won't meet the deadline that Congress set in 2008 for railroads to install the train- i crash prevention technology.
