Say bye to bottleneck in houston The Port of Houston in February announced several funding agreements were forged for the nearly $23 million Broadway Second Main Rail Track project, which is designed to eliminate a freight-rail bottleneck. The project calls for replacing a single-track rail bridge with double-track structures that can accommodate rail traffic needs for the next 30 years. The single-track segment is exceeding its capacity, resulting in train delays of two-and-a-half hours per day. The Houston-Galveston Area Council will cover half of project costs, with the Port Terminal Railroad Association (PTRA) providing the remainder. The port is served by BNSF Railway Co., Kansas City Southern and Union Pacific Railroad, while PTRA provides switching services.
