METROLINK LAUNCHES TIER 4 LOCOMOTIVE TESTS In early June, California's Metrolink began testing locomotives that meet the Environmental Protection Agency's Tier 4 emissions standard. The testing will continue through the summer now that the the Federal Railroad Administration has given its approval to begin the process. After the testing period concludes, Metrolink will start deploying the new locomotives across its system. Built by Progress Rail, the new units are expected to reduce particulate matter and nitrogen oxide emissions by up to 85 percent, according to Metrolink.
