The application of standard whiteners was so far limited either by physical-chemical effects (greening) or by the negative impact of Hexasul-fowhiteners with low substantivity to the production, if the broke is recycled. In this presentation advanced Tetrasulfotypes are presented, allowing papermakers to overcome the limits set by the greening of Standard-Tetrasulfowhiteners in size press application. Several options for replacing the Tetrasulfotypes in surface applications are discussed. The replacement of Hexasulfotypes in size press is discussed as well. Goal of all these measures is to achieve the whiteness requirements reliably. Furthermore the load of production water is reduced, which can be detected as anionic freight The reduction in number of brakes and the amount of broke leads to a significant improvement in productivity.
