Austal wins financing for high-speed ferry, subcontract for Navy's Littoral Combat Ship

A project to build two 353-foot- long catamaran ferries for service in Hawaii received a huge boost in October, when the operator, Hawaii Superferry, secured $139.7 million in financing from the U.S. Maritime Administration. The funding is crucial for Austal USA, which had already begun construction of the vessels at its yard in Mobile, Ala. The first ferry is sched- uled for delivery in December 2006, with service to begin in 2007.
