Moran Towing and McAllister each building 5,000-hp z-drives

Both Moran Towing and McAllister Towing are building 5,000-hp z-drive tractor tugs, each with impressive amounts of firefighting capability. Both tugs are slated for service at the recently reopened liquefied-natural-gas (LNG) terminal at Cove Point, Md., on Chesapeake Bay south of Baltimore. Moran's newest tug, Kaye E. Moran, is under construction at the Washburn & Doughty shipyard in East Boothbay, Maine, and is expected to be delivered around the end of the year. McAllister's new vessel is also expected to be delivered around the end of the year, from Eastern Shipbuilding in Panama City, Fla. Both shipyards have built several vessels for the tugboat companies.
