Britain may no longer have an indigenous volume motor industry, but there is still significant automotive engineering going on. Although the UK's car output is mainly rolling out of foreign-owned factories, a lot of cutting-edge automotive engineering is taking place on these shores. Much of this work, rather than taking place at the OEMs or Tier Ones, is being done by consultancies such as Ricardo, Lotus, Mira, Cosworth Technology, Prodrive and Zytek. Many of these companies have grown from motorsports roots and have expanded by applying their technologies beyond the track. This is certainly true of Zytek, which is beginning to see years of investment and development turn into on-track success and signed-off deals.
