Rising levels of atmospheric CO2 have led to increased acidification of the world's oceans, potentially endangering coral reefs, which are already beleaguered by hurricanes, disease, and bleaching. Although researchers have established the harmful effects of ocean acidification on the well-being of adult reef corals, little is known about the effect of acidic waters on the early stages of the corals' life history.
