Transmembrane proteins participate in many important biological processes including cellular recognition and transport of molecules across the cell membrane; however, experimentally determining their 3D structures by X-ray crystallography or other techniques is extremely difficult. Therefore, researchers frequently must rely upon computational methods for predicting structure.n.
