摘要

Since the launch of the London Underground transportation system in 1963, the utilisation of underground space has always been considered the main solution to solving the shortage of land space under the pressures of rapid urbanisation. In addition to issues regarding energy supply in the 21st century, there are increasing concerns about global climate change. The utilisation of underground space is regarded as one of the best options for sustainable development of society. In spite of the extremely expensive cost and high risks during construction, tunnels and underground structures are robust and durable and will require low maintenance costs. Because of this, over the past century it has always been considered the main approach to solving problems in the field of public construction.
