Implementation and challenges on the Doha Metro project, Qatar

摘要

The new Doha Metro is a key part of the State of Qatar's integrated rail network project, which was commissioned by the government in 2011. The first 12.5 pound billion phase of the capital city's metro, including 86 km of track, 112km of tunnels and 37 stations, will open in 2020 after just 8 years of construction - and comfortably ahead of the 2022 FIFA World Cup. Delivery of this large urban project in challenging geotechnical, environmental and political conditions is being achieved without compromising safety, quality, programme or budget. This paper outlines the engineering approaches applied, the challenges faced and the innovative procurement, technical and safety solutions adopted.
