Seismic performance of end-perforated concrete beams strengthened with polymer sheets

This paper presents the results of eight seismic performance tests on end-perforated reinforced concrete beams strengthened with carbon-fibre-reinforced polymer sheets. The beams had different sizes of perforations and strengthening arrangements and were subjected to hybrid load-displacement control loading conditions. The ultimate load resistance, hysteretic performance, energy dissipation capability, ductility and stiffness degradation of the beams with and without strengthening were investigated. The test results show that the beams strengthened with polymer have better seismic performance, and that beam perforation size has a significant influence on seismic behaviour. An increase of hole diameter considerably decreases the hysteresis performance, energy dissipation capacity and ductility of the beams.
