The amount of new electric generating capacity installed during the first nine months of 2013 is lagging well behind the pace set in 2012, according to figures released recently by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC). Capacity installation for January through September of 2013 is 10,717 MW, compared to 14,217 MW installed through September 2012, according to the Energy Infrastructure Update for September issued by FERC's Office of Energy Projects. So far the biggest difference between 2012 and 2013 has been the 2012 wind energy boom. In the first nine months of 2012, 87 wind units were installed for a total of 5,043 MW.
