Nuclear power plant cooling water facilities are the heart and arteries of continuous online operations. The pumps, valves and piping systems are essential components that allow the plant to operate in a safe and efficient manner while maintaining cooling to the reactor. The stopple pipe plugging process has a strong history and successful track record in the nuclear power industry, including use in safety-related systems. The process is supported by technical expertise in the design of the fittings, which become a permanent component of the system. As with any undertaking in a nuclear facility, a process must be implemented to review all aspects of the work to be performed. Safety in a nuclear facility is the single driving force for performance evaluation. Special fittings are used to isolate a section of a piping system using the stopple plugging process. The fitting is equipped with a factory-installed method to remove the temporary access control valve when work on the system is completed.
