摘要

Water conservation is becoming an increasingly important issue at power plants and other industrial facilities around the US. These issues are propelling many plant owners and engineers toward programs to reduce makeup water usage and to recover significant amounts of wastewater. In some cases, zero liquid discharge may be the requirement. This article examines current methods for reducing power plant water consumption and wastewater discharge. Further volume reduction is often needed to produce a stream that either can be discharged, or in the ultimate scenario, can become part of a zero liquid discharge configuration. One alternative is the circulating-dry-scrubber/circulating-fluid-bed technology, which produces a dry product and no liquid waste stream. One such idea is improved rainwater and stormwater recovery and treatment. This process uses waste heat from the combustion turbine exhaust to vaporize an ammonia coolant, which is then employed to remove heat from the turbine inlet air stream.
