PCI members meet in the Florida heat to review their year

The Powder Coating Institute (PCI) held its 24th annual meeting during unusually humid and hot weather in May at the Hilton Sandestin Beach Resort, Destin, Fla. That didn't stop the golfing and tennis tournaments, but it did make for some sweaty soak-filled hours under the blazing sun. Cooler heads prevailed inside as outgoing PCI President Ken Kreeger of Nordson opened the meeting with an overview of the industry since its introduction in 1949. He explained how equipment technology has changed through the years from the baghouse systems of the 1960's to the increasingly faster and more sophisticated cyclone and cartridge systems of today. His decade-by-decade chronology of the industry's technical advances also included prices for various consumer goods each decade. While some of the nostalgists in the room longed for the good old days when the price of an average home in 1969 was $15,000 and a gallon of gas was 35 cents, no one longed for good old days of powder coating with today's advances in quick-color change and fast turnaround.
