In previous issues, I've discussed outgassing and some of the possible causes and solutions. In this issue, 111 go a little further into the subject. Outgassing occurs most frequently with the softer and lighter metals, such as zinc die-cast metal. The problem with elec-trodeposition coating or powder coating zinc die casts is in the lower casting temperature. Depending on the metal, zinc die casts can start to soften in the low 400℉ range. This makes them very tough to coat and still get a good cure on the parts. With these metals, the outgassing can show up as a blister, bump, or pinhole and can cause you to go on a wild goose chase thinking that you have some other problem.
