Capital dredging projects are essential to the continued expansion and development of ports. David Foxwell investigates some of the latest developments which are helping ports develop and thrive The most obvious examples of capital dredging projects in ports are the reclamation of new land on which to build a new port, or extend existing facilities. But as ships get larger, navigation channels need to be deepened, and most forms of marine civil engineering work — such as the construction of a new quay wall or a new breakwater — usually require dredging at some point.
