Nick Elliot investigates changes in the economics of soya bean production and processing and how it is affecting terminal infrastructure developments around the world. World soya bean export forecasts have risen to 50.95m tonnes for 2000/01 as global demand for the "miracle" crop continues to grow. US exports alone will account for a record 27.08m tonnes followed by other leading producers, Brazil at 13.3m tonnes and Argentina at 6m tonnes. Conversely, soya bean meal export forecasts show Argentina leading with 13.9m tonnes, followed by Brazil with 10.25m tonnes and the US with 6.622m tonnes.
