Sharply increased container throughputs and a streamlining of port activities into vertically integrated units should expedite Piraeus' long-awaited stock market listing. The Greek government's original objective was to have both the ports ot Piraeus and Thessaloniki re-organised into part state-owned entities with tranches of stock listed on the Athens stock exchange, by the end of 1999.
