Sea Containers announces good first quarter results

Sea Containers Ltd, has announced good results for the first quarter ended March 2001. Net earnings for the period were $0.9m, representing $0.05 per common share diluted, on revenue of $291 m. This is a welcome turnaround for the passenger transport operator, marine container lessor and leisure industry investor, which saw a loss of $7.9m for the same period in 2000, which equated to a loss of $0.43 per common share diluted, on revenue of $278m.The first quarter of 2001 benefited from gains on sale of $ 15m while similar gains in the first quarter of 2000 were $3.2m.
