摘要

Variety of natural and anthropogenic activities like effluents from the Industries, the pesticides and fertilizers from the agricultural fields are the main source of heavy metals in rivers of India. The aquatic pollution is directly affecting the fish diversity of the river because due to feeding and living in this medium they are particularly vulnerable and highly exposed to water pollutants.So the present study was conducted to evaluate biochemical composition and heavy metal concentration of fresh water fish Xenentodon cancila collected from the Stn.l-Valapattanam River and Stn.2-Kawayi River of Kannur District Kerala, India. During the present study fresh fish Xenentodon cancila was collected from the both the stations seasonally, i.e. during Pre-monsoon and Post-monsoon seasons to analyse the status of selected commercial fish with reference to heavy metals (Cu, Zn, Co, Cr, Mn, Pb, Cd, Ni, Se, Hg) and their impact on the biochemical composition (Protein, Lipid, Carbohydrate) and nutritional facts (Moisture and Ash) during selected study seasons. On analysis the amount of copper, zinc, chromium seem to be high in both the river water and in fish there is a gradual decrease in the amount of protein, lipid and carbohydrate composition in station 1 in both season. Protein, lipid and moisture content were higher in Kawayi River fishes than Valapattanam River.
