Oxygen has been shown to be the limiting factor for microbes capable of aerobically degrading contaminants such as petroleum hydrocarbons.Through enhanced aerobic bioremediation,the addition of oxygen (an electron donor) can,in most cases,increase the number and vitality of indigenous microorganisms performing aerobic biodegradation.The key to optimizing the cost,effectiveness and longevity of this process is ensuring the use of a controlled-release oxygen compound.
