摘要

Securing uranium resources is vital for the development of nuclear power as the most effective measure against global warming. Fissionable uranium 235 makes up only 0.7% of the uranium element in the presently confirmed uranium resources in the world, and if we continue to use this by the present numbers of nuclear power plants in the world we will hit rock bottom in 100 years. If we take into consideration that more and more countries are beginning to promote nuclear power development, the present light water reactors (LWR) widely used in the world must be replaced soon with fast breeder reactors (FBR), which can efficiently convert uranium 238 (an isotope of uranium element which is not fissionable) that makes up 99.3% of uranium to plutonium and we can burn it as fuel.
