Designing fire safety in vertical buildings

Our local paper recently printed an article outlining the development plans for the Kakaako neighborhood on Oahu. Kakaako, the current home for many of the island's auto body shops and karaoke bars, is located between Waikiki and downtown Honolulu. Within the next few years, developers are planning to construct 15 to 20 high-rise buildings. All are residential condos, and many will include mixed-use, residential and commercial structures intended to create work-and-play-where-you-live communities. One developer has proposed constructing two towers over 700 feet tall. Jeepers, I hope the island doesn't tip over.
