The price of alumina was steady in the AsinPacific Friday at $372/mt FOB Australia. nTrading was thin due to a shortage of nunplaced February cargoes, and the festivenseason had also taken a large number of nparticipants out of the market. Platts’ FOB nAustralia price benchmark was up $5/mt onthe week and $10/mt on the month. Two nalumina consumers and a trader said on nThursday they thought it would be reason-nable for buying interest to have reached nthe equivalent of $370/mt FOB Australia, nwith 30 days credit, for a cargo lifting in nFebruary or March. Recent sell indications nhave mostly been at floating prices based non spot values, consumers have said.
