Gas-fired power burn rebounds on colder weather, lower prices

US gas-fired power burn has rebounded sharply in January, driven partly by colder weather but also by lower gas prices, which are more than offsetting nuclear refueling and maintenance outages this month. Through Monday, US-level power burn has averaged 25.3 Bcf/d in January, up 1.9 Bcf/d, or about 8%, compared to the December 2018 average, data compiled by S&P Global Platts Analytics shows.
