Peach Bottom, Surry to be lead plants for accident consequences analysis

Exelon's Peach Bottom and Dominion's Surry will be the first two plants assessed in NRC's reactor accident consequences study, the agency announced last week. The state-of-the-art reactor consequence analysis, known as Soarca, will be conducted by NRC staff and contractors from Sandia National Laboratory. The results will be "used to realistically predict the consequences of potential accidents at commercial US reactors," NRC said in a May 7 release.
