摘要

Salt River Project, the nonprofit water and electric utility based in Tempe, Ariz., on Nov. 14 announced it will invest in two new solar-plusstorage projects, marking a next step in its transition from fossil fuels to ambitious investments in renewable energy and energy storage. The projects present a microcosm of power industry trends, as renewable power generation coupled with battery storage emerges as a replacement for fossil-fuel plants. The two solar-plus-storage plants will help replace power provided by the 1,500-MW Navajo Generating Station in Coconino County, Arizona. SRP, a joint owner of the coal plant, in September said it had permanently shut down one of its units.
