As Russia’s Nordstream gas line bypasses them to the north, the Baltic states face thenclosure of two regional power stations. To improve their energy security, major goals arenintegration with the EU UCTE electricity network, joint development of a new nuclearnplant and, for Estonia, the exploitation of its one major but emissions-heavy energynresource, oil shale.
