Coal India sees imports rising to 40-45 million tons

Coal India Ltd, the country's largest coal producer, plans to bridge India's growing coal shortfall using a mix of "40 million to 45 million mt/year of imports", overseas coal mine acquisitions and joint ventures with international miners to reopen domestic coal mines, according to the state-owned company's marketing director Dr A K Sarkar.
