Colombian coal production should reach 115 million mt by 2014, the country's energy and mining minister Mauricio Cardenas said late June. He attributed the boost in the production target to the high levels of investment in exploration and mining projects in the country. This includes a $1.31 billion project to expand the Cerrejon thermal coal mine in Colombia's northern La Guajira province, one of the biggest coal deposits in the world.
