Canada should pursue energy corridor to Asia: interest groups

The Canadian government should adopt a far-reaching strategy to secure oil and LNG markets in Asia, including the possibility of a publicly-owned "energy transportation corridor" to the British Columbia coast, a joint task force of non-profit research organizations has recommended. If Canada is to lower its reliance on the uncertain US market, which currently accounts for 99% of Canada's oil and gas exports, it needs to take urgent steps to make energy relations with Asia a "national priority" and overcome contentious debates around infrastructure and transportation needs, said a report released in June by the Asia-Pacific Foundation of Canada and the Canada West Foundation.
