Pemex downsizes EIA shale gas assessment

Pemex, Mexico's state-owned petroleum company, estimates the country has 297 Tcf of prospective natural shale gas resources, far less than the US Energy Information Administration's 681 Tcf estimate, an executive with the company said June 25. The 297 Tcf is a mean of estimates provided for Pemex that range from 150 to 459 Tcf, said Gustavo Hernandez-Garcia, executive vice president for planning and evaluation for Pemex exploration and production. The number translates to 60.2 billion barrels of oil equivalent.
