PKN approves takeover defences

The shareholders of Poland's largest refiner, PKN Orlen, voted July 15 to approve management plans to change the company's statutes to prevent a hostile takeover. The changes in the statute, backed by the Polish government which controls a 27.52% stake in PKN, will allow the company to limit the ability of non-state shareholders to pool their voting rights to gain control of the company.
