Azerbaijan's state oil company, Socar, has called for Turkmenistan's offshore gas fields in the Caspian to be linked to export facilities in Azerbaijan, in order to implement EU proposals for a Trans-Caspian gas pipeline.Socar's head of apparatus, Rasim Mammedov, speaking at Azerbaijan's annual Caspian Oil & Gas Conference in Baku on June 6, made it clear that a link between Turkmenistan's production facilities on the eastern side of the Caspian and Azerbaijan's offshore facilities on the western side - a proposal dubbed the Trans-Caspian Interconnector - was Azerbaijan's preferred choice for a trans-Caspian gas pipeline.
