Czech Coal reignites feud with EPH

Czech brown coal producer Czech Coal announced June 7 that it has served notice to the country's privately-owned energy holding Energeticky a Prumyslovy Holding (EPH) of termination of its contract for the supply of brown coal to the combined heat and power plant Elektrarny Opatovice (EOP) on the grounds of nonpayment.The announcement marked another shot in an escalating conflict over future prices of lignite, which is a major fuel source for the Czech power industry, including CEZ. Czech Coal, controlled by Pavel Tykac, has long been locked in pricing disputes with customers that have threatened to halt production at several large power stations.
