In recent months, I have begun to get a feeling that something I have wanted to see for many years just might be possible in the near future. There are signs. There are waves in the "ether". The innermost Galilean satellite of Jupiter, Io, is a fascinating place. The physical phenomena associated with this object are remarkable. As examples we have control of Jovian decametric emission by Io, the ejection of Iogenic material into Jupiter's magnetosphere, and its participation in the production of auroral emissions in Jupiter's upper atmosphere. But above all there is the incredible level of volcanic activity.
