Turbochargers for large-bore reciprocating engines will no longer merely represent a system add-on to increase the air-to-fuel ratio, but will now begin to play a major role as a controllable component that significantly reduces pollutant emissions and increases engine fuel efficiency. The National Gas Machinery Laboratory at Kansas State University is spearheading initiatives to transform the turbocharger from the system add-on to a big league player within the entire engine system.
