It was announced recently that the Canadian federal government plans to roll out a national strategy to protect critical infrastructure systems such as oil and gas pipelines, refineries, power plants, telecommunications networks, water supplies and banking from attacks either by hackers or terrorists.rnThe announcement highlights a growing security issue for both the U.S. and Canada. As the largest foreign supplier of oil and natural gas to the U.S., Canada could easily be the target for "black hat" hackers and terrorists, as could any pipeline or refinery in the U.S. and elsewhere.
