Ziff Energy Group has released a report examining pipelines proposed to support Alberta, Canada oil sands developments to 2017. In addition to new oil export pipelines shown here, the report reviews new gas and diluent import pipelines to support tripling of oil sands production from 2007 to 2017. Dave Vetsch, Senior Associate, Ziff Energy, notes that "not all proposed Alberta oil export pipelines will proceed. Those pipelines that first obtain shipper support may cause other projects to be deferred. Some of these proj- ects allow for future oil sands expansion which may provide these operators a competitive advantage on adding pipeline capacity, as expansion costs may be less than new pipeline costs."
