Darren Bowden, of Metal Parts & Equipment Co., grew up in Alice, located deep in the heart of South Texas. Growing up there, Bowden said he was always around farming and, of course, the oil and gas industry. He graduated from Texas A&M University in 1987 with a bachelor's degree in engineering, industrial distribution, but unfortunately at that time also witnessed the large downturn in the industry underwent in the 80s. This caused him to look at other areas to advance his career. Bowden went to work for Cincinnati Milacron after graduation, spending eight years as a territory manager with stops in Kansas, Oklahoma and Wisconsin. He was promoted to regional sales manager in 1995 and relocated to Charlotte, N.C., where he managed a staff consisting of 13 sales and four technical service personnel.
