In this column and in a feature story in the August issue of PIMA Magazine, I have recently written about the growing interest of worldwide paper companies in improving the "logistical" end of the business. The paper industry has traditionally invested heavily in online measurement and control systems, which have shown excellent returns. Now, however, more and more companies realize that there are large amounts of money trapped in their logistical systems, money that can be released for use by reengineered supply chains, supported by the proper information technologies.
